Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not True Real Fans'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Increase Tension on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be true Spurs fans" by manager Frank.

Tottenham let in two goals in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth top-flight home loss of 2025.

But the primary topic of discussion was the visitors' second goal when the keeper lost the ball well beyond his area.

The goalkeeper came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball towards the touchline.

But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six metres.

Moments afterwards when the ball went to the keeper again, a number of Spurs supporters jeered him.

The team were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

A particular of those jeering episodes really angered the manager.

"I heard a few of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and booed after, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals cannot be real Tottenham fans that do that. Alright jeering after the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind each other going forward."

Tete had given Fulham a early lead prior to Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second period showing.

Former top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "completely preventable".

"I do appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the role the keeper is performing. He is a great squad member, he's a real figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.

"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the decisive score."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Vicario Following the Game

Italy international the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old stated after the game that he had to take the criticism.

"That score was a mistake of my own, I take accountability for it," he commented.

"My aim was to kick the ball long and I just struck the ball in a poor way. It was an even bigger mountain to climb."

He said receiving jeers "comes with football".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.

"It is on the team to stay increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and poise to reverse outcomes. Today is a bad loss and it's tough to accept."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'

In spite of the keeper's error, it was not an easy score for Wilson to score.

Actually it was the second most distant top division goal of the campaign – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly also came on the same day.

Wilson said he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty goal to target.

10 seconds elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments after the kick.

"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the box for ages," Wilson remarked.

"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.

"Udogie fell too, which allowed me a bit of extra opportunity. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the correct connection and get it on target. I had a good feeling, the moment it left my foot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Work Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

While Vicario's mistake led coverage, this was an overall bad performance for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

This was their tenth at home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club statistic along with 1994 and two thousand and three.

The side still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to play before the end of the year.

Only one of those victories have come since the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"When you're behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to climb," stated Frank.

"During in a poor run, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from the keeper.

"This result puts us in a position where we have lost another game. Every game has a unique narrative, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to learn."

Tottenham have lost four straight home London derbies for the first time in the top division.

Furthermore they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest rates on file in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Former Fulham midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He's got take the stick," Murphy remarked. "He's accepted a high profile job at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
