The President Calls Relatives of Injured Military Soldiers to White House
President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Invitation
The president stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And similarly with him, no matter the outcome.”
Community Response
Community members came together over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that instructors wished for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Government Changes
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event caused the administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop issuing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
