The Animated Series' Showrunner Has Seen Fans' Season 2 Predictions — With Some Good News
The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been rampant.
The first season introduces a diverse group of characters residing in Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've already completed some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
