Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Response
The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
