Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
