HBO's It Spinoff Debuts Second Early on the Streaming Platform
Audiences are thrilled for the horror series Welcome to Derry, already earning acclaim and incorporating themes from additional King stories. Now, HBO has revealed that episode two will arrive early, timed perfectly for the spookiest night.
Early Release Information
Starting on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST, episode two of It: Welcome to Derry will launch on HBO Max, prior to its Sunday HBO premiere. The remaining installments of the eight-episode season will continue to air on the weekend on both HBO and its streaming arm, culminating in the concluding chapter on Sunday, December 14.
Show Background
Taking place within the world of King's It, the new series is inspired by the original story while expanding on the universe realized by director Andy Muschietti in the two It films. It Chapter One highlighted kids and teens facing unimaginable horrors, making it appropriate that the prequel follows in those footsteps. Nevertheless, the premiere episode of the HBO series demonstrates it set out to raise the stakes, offering heightened horror than the cinematic versions and creating a harsh vibe for what's to come.
Setting and Themes
Located in the early '60s, this show presents a different group of grown-ups and kids inhabiting a seemingly idyllic town masking a dark secret. The town functions through a cruel, recurring cycle—characterized by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a monstrous presence resurfaces once every three decades. Although It: Welcome to Derry might sound like it strays too near to the movies on the surface, what sets apart the streaming show is its dual perspective—told from the eyes of both children and adults simultaneously. Younger characters are highly exposed to It's terror, but older characters also face dealing with their own nightmares stemming from local discrimination and lurking supernatural forces.
The series airs on October 31 at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
