Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland woke up lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the region, generating strong winds reaching over 100 km/h.

Homeowners reported large ice chunks as large as 7cm in particular locations. Weather authorities confirmed that different parts across Queensland had been hit with significant hail.

Utility workers were working to restore energy supply throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units activated to address the extensive power failures.
Victoria's Weather Woes
Meanwhile, nearly one thousand residents in the southern state also faced power outages after Melbourne saw its heaviest rainfall in a year and a half.
Emergency response teams responded to 598 calls for help across the state, mainly for building damage but also for downed trees and inundation.

During the peak on the previous day, more than 28k energy customers in Victoria were without power.
Meteorological Predictions
Moist weather were forecast to persist along much of eastern Queensland this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the coast.
Tuesday was expected to become the wettest day, with continued severe weather risk anticipated across multiple regions of both regions.
Medical Alert
Medical authorities alerted that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
This alert comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
